DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A 19-year-old man has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Stanley Avenue earlier in the week .

About 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, a woman, later identified as April Cartwright, 68, was killed at the intersection of Stanley Avenue at Webster Street when a man ran the red light hit her.

According to DPD Sgt. Gordon Cairns, video footage obtained by the department shows the second individual running the light. The man then allegedly fled the scene on foot.

Cairns said the woman had stopped at the Shell convenience store to get a snack before heading in to work.

Dayton Police reached out to the person the car is registered to and determined that the man was actually the registrant’s nephew. Cairns said that during an interview with police, the nephew exhibited signs of injuries consistent with a car crash, such as a seat belt bruise.

Cairns said that the nephew eventually admitted to being in the crash. He said the investigation will continue to determine whether he was speeding or if alcohol was involved.
