DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Dayton Police Department has released new information regarding a police response to the Oregon District during Labor Day weekend.

According to Dayton Police Major Jason Hall, officers were called around 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 31 to the 400 block of E. Fifth Street. Officers were sent in reference to reported fighting.

Large police presence expected Friday in Montgomery County

Upon arrival, officers reportedly tried to break up a crowd. Dayton Police claims more fights occurred. Authorities allege the area began to get “increasingly agitated” upon attempting to make arrests, which prompted a call for assistance to be made.

“As officers were apprehending violent individuals the surrounding crowd became increasingly agitated which prompted a Signal 99 to request available officers to respond,” said Hall.

Hall said a 27 and 28-year-old were arrested and charged with the disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
