    Police investigating source of bomb threat in Springfield: ‘See something, say something’

    SPRINGFIELD, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Two days after being mentioned in Tuesday’s presidential debate, Springfield Police Division was dispatched to their city hall after a bomb threat.

    A massive police presence from multiple departments was seen in Springfield this morning as Police responded to a bomb threat message.

    Many Springfield residents are expressing frustration on 2 NEWS social media pages .

    Police received the message via email at 8:24 a.m., leading to an evacuation of all employees in the building and multiple surrounding buildings.

    Other bomb threats had also been called in, less than five miles away on Champion Ave. Local SWAT and FBI agents responded to a call about a suspicious package at someone’s home.

    Additional law enforcement support was provided by Springfield Officers, Dayton Pd, Montgomery County Sherriff, Dayton Airport, Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Clark County Sheriff, Clark County Emergency Management Agency, The Ohio Fire Marshalls Beauru, Springfield Fire And Rescue Division, and The Department Of Public Safety.

    Another evacuation order was issued at several other locations, including Fulton Elementary School, and numerous other buildings immediately surrounding Springfield City Hall.

    At this time, the police have not commented on who the threat originated from or whether or not they have any suspects linked to the threatening message. They are asking for the public’s help in identifying who may be responsible.

    “I would like to stress that we are deeply committed to the safety of our entire community. Safety is a shared responsibility and it takes all of us- I encourage the public- if you see something, say something,” said Springfield Chief of Police Allison Elliott.

    Springfield PD says they have cleared all of the potentially affected buildings.

    Springfield City Hall will be closed for the remainder of the day.
