Sidney teen arrested after posting school threat to social media

SIDNEY, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Sidney police arrested a 15-year-old girl accused of posted shooting threats on social media Wednesday.

The Sidney Police Department received information regarding a threat posted to Instagram on Sept. 11. The post discussed a shooting planned for Sidney Middle School on Sept. 12.

Sidney PD officers coordinated with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI to investigate the threats. Through the joint efforts, police say they identified a suspect — a 15-year-old female.

The teen was taken into custody and charged with Inducing Panic, a second-degree felony. She is now being held at the West Central Detention Center in Troy.

Law enforcement does not believe any other subjects were involved. No additional threats were made against Sidney City Schools relating to this incident.

Sidney officers and Sheriff’s office deputies will provide additional security and patrols throughout the rest of the week.
