DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Major family attractions are set to open this month as fall draws near.

Here in the Miami Valley, there’s a new haunted house offering a different twist on scare houses.

“We’re all indoors, so we don’t have the weather to deal with but as for what sets us apart from the rest of the house, as my actors, you know, they put so much heart and soul in it,” said Fred Harn, owner of Hell’s Dungeon.

Harn says his crew goes by what he likes to call the “reject theory.”

“Everybody’s been rejected, regardless of what it is, you know, skin color, height, weight, you know, sexual personality, all kinds of different stuff. And up down here, we’re all one. You know, we’re a family. And we made sure we let everybody feel that way as soon as they walked in,” said Harn.

Actress Alyssa Valentine says it’s a frightening escape, but one that feels like home.

“So I’ve been through a lot. I had a rough childhood, and then when I moved to Ohio, things were kind of crazy at first, you know, I didn’t really know anybody. And then when I met Fred and I met the family when I came here, I had a really bad day at work,” said Valentine.

At Hell’s Dungeon, the negativity began to melt away.

“I put my makeup on and I put my mask on and I ran around like a little gremlin, you know, for a couple of hours and scare the crap out of some people. And I maybe just feel so much better about myself because, you know, they were having fun,” said Valentine.

If you’re unsure about exploring a new scary site, Hell’s Dungeon’s owner says not to worry.

“Don’t get me wrong, we are scary, but we don’t want to terrify people to where they don’t want to come back to the haunts for the rest of your life,” said Harn.
