Man sentenced to 15 to 20 years for stabbing pregnant mother

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The man accused of stabbing the mother of his children more than 30 times has been sentenced.

Javon Owensby, 28, was sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison and was designated a Violent Offender. He pleaded guilty last month to attempted murder, felonious assault and domestic violence as part of a deal with prosecutors. Three additional charges were dropped.

The stabbing incident occurred at the Cornell Woods Apartments in February. He was indicted on seven counts including domestic violence of a pregnant victim.

Court documents show the victim still has a piece of the knife stuck in her skull. Though she is now out of the hospital, the stabbing has left her with lasting physical and mental injuries.
