Currently, there is no Humane Society in the county and few, if any, rescues. Dog Warden Jacob Boyd says they currently collaborate with other counties for adoptions. With the new facility, the goal is to keep Logan County dogs in Logan County.
There will be 26 adoption kennels, three quarantine kennels and five temporary holding kennels, for a total of 34 kennels.
Boyd says this project has been in the works since December, but the tornadoes that ripped through Logan County earlier in March reallocated funds to relief efforts. Still, Boyd says there is an absolute need for the facility and says he’s grateful to officials for moving efforts forward.
To support the construction and operation of the shelter, Logan County Commissioners have approved financial donations to be accepted through the Logan County Sheriff’s Office BEHIND THE BADGE Volunteers, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Donations can be made in several ways, including:
Cash Donations: Drop off at the Sheriff’s Office, 284 County Road 32 S, Bellefontaine, OH 43311, during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
Checks : Mail to the above address
Credit Card Donations: Contact Pam Reames at 937-539-0403 or via email at pnp5us@icloud.com
Kennel sponsorships are also available for $4,000. Included with that price is a lifetime acknowledgment of the sponsor. Each kennel comes with a 10-year warranty. Additional sponsorship opportunities will be announced at a later date.
A public groundbreaking ceremony is set for Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. on the jail grounds.
