EATON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The Preble County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed one person on US-35 Tuesday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at 7:49 a.m. west of Washington Twin Road.

Preliminary investigations show Richard B. Laycock, 59, of West Alexandria, was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck westbound on US-35.

The truck was towing a homemade trailer and was pulled over to make adjustments to the load being hauled. His adult daughter assisted him; both were outside of the truck at the trailer.

A westbound driver of a 2021 Kia SUV struck the left rear corner of the trailer. As a result of the crash, Laycock was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Kia and Laycock’s daughter were transported to Kettering Preble ER with non-life-threatening injuries.

Laycock was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsy. During the preliminary investigation, the roadway was closed for two and a half hours.

    The crash remains under investigation.
