DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — A local man received a cutting-edge prosthetic after a severe motorcycle accident and the company who made it all possible says it’s a major milestone for the industry.

Joey Hart was traveling 110 miles per hour on his motorcycle three months ago when he was thrown for his bike. As a result of the crash, Hart lost his leg.

He says his life was saved by a nurse and doctor who pulled over after the accident, putting a tourniquet on his leg and calling for help.

Hart was the first recipient of the “neuro knee” from the company Optimus Prosthetics. He says he feels lucky and excited to be able to run again with this new leg.

“It’s awesome to finally be able to get in a leg and feel like I have some more function back. I feel like I’m gonna have a superpower now that like I’ll be able to do so much,” said Hart.

Optimus Prosthetics says the knee can last five days on a four-hour charge.
