A Logan County man is facing nearly 40 charges, including more than a dozen counts of aggravated attempted murder, for allegedly opening fire in an Indian Lake neighborhood.

According to an indictment, Holley Tolliver Jr. allegedly hit several people’s homes and vehicles as he shot directly at sheriff’s deputies, leading to a standoff with law enforcement.

Tolliver faces 39 charges in relation to the shooting, including 16 counts of Aggravated Attempted Murder for firing at law enforcement officers.

“Obviously he didn’t care,” said Logan County Sheriff Randall Dodds. “When we were trying to reach the place, we were just shooting, you know, and gunshots were going everywhere.”

Dodds said deputies were called to the scene on Big Bear Path in Indian Lake after a 911 call around 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14.

The call reported shots fired into a residence, and eventually at officers when they arrived. Tolliver allegedly shot into several properties on Big Bear Path, hitting both neighbors’ homes and cars.

It took deputies with the help of surrounding departments 11 hours to finally arrest Tolliver.

The sheriff said he believes Tolliver was intentionally targeting law enforcement.

“I think he probably was intending for us to shoot him,” said Dodds. “I believe that was probably his end.”

Tolliver is currently held at the Logan County Jail. He pleaded Not Guilty by reason of insanity to all the charges. A mental competency exam is pending.

His bond has been set at $1 million.

Dodds said there is a growing trend of mental health issues and gun violence that smaller rural areas are increasingly seeing.

“You see a lot of these things taking place in the bigger metropolitan areas,” said Dodds. “It’s slowly creeping out into these rural areas. I see that more and more, and especially with mental health issues. That’s becoming a bigger problem.”
