1 dead, 2 injured in crash on I-70 Tuesday morning

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio ( WDTN ) — One person is dead after a crash involving three vehicles on I-70 Tuesday morning.

The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash. Troopers were called to the scene along with medics at 6:51 a.m. on Sept. 24.

Preliminary investigation shows a Kia Forte, a Nissan Rogue and a Ford Fusion were all traveling eastbound on I-70 near mile marker 68 in Harmony Township. Initially, the Kia and Ford were traveling in the right lane and the Nissan was traveling in the center lane.

Investigators say the Kia made a lane change from the right lane across all lanes of travel to the left lane, but failed to maintain control of their vehicle. After losing control, the Kia went from the left lane back to the right, striking the Nissan in the process.

The Nissan then struck the Ford in the right lane. After colliding, the Ford and Nissan continued off the right side of the roadway, both striking trees.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as Jean Babylor, 39 of Indianapolis, died from their injuries at the scene of the crash.

The passenger of the Nissan was also injured, and was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center with serious, life-threatening injuries, according to OSP. The individual was then transported to Miami Valley Hospital by helicopter.

The driver of the Ford was treated on scene for minor injuries. The Kia driver was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by OSP’s Springfield Post. OSP was assisted on scene by Harmony Township Fire and EMS, Clark County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation and Dan’s Towing & Recovery.
