EATON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Severe weather caused some damage in Eaton Tuesday afternoon.

People living on Quinn Road at the corner of US-35 and Yost Road saw downed tree limbs and some damage to their homes.

Preble County Sheriffs and the EMA are assessing damages that both officials and residents say they were not expecting.

“I looked to my right towards the town of Eaton and saw a funnel cloud forming, so I whipped out my phone and started to record it,” said Russell Brown.

Residents in and around Eaton were startled by the blaring of tornado warnings from their televisions, phones and sirens outdoors. For some, the warning arrived right on their doorstep.

“Right here in the backyard. You could see it clear as day forming. I started to get it on video and I slid my back door open. Then I realized, hey, we should probably go to the basement,” said Andrew Matheis, a West Alexandria resident.

Others on the same street also caught sight of the powerful storm wreaking havoc in their backyard; snapping tree limbs and sending debris into the sky.

“Kinda got really loud, kinda sounded like a train. There were things flying in the air. It almost looked like white smoke,” said Rylee Fischer, a West Alexandria resident.

Preble County officials report that nobody was injured and only light damage was reported, including some damage to crops, structures and trees.

The National Weather Service has not yet confirmed a tornado.
