TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) — Local organizations are teaming up to provide free food to hungry residents in Montgomery County.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 26, individuals who are in need of a free meal can visit the Goodwill Easter Seals West Campus at 735 E. Main St. in Trotwood. During the community event, to-go boxes and educational resources will be distributed to guests.

A table will also be set up for grab and go groceries.

According to Ivy Glover, director of social impact at Wright-Patt Credit Union (WPCU), the event is to assist community members who experience food insecurity.

“While this event takes place during September, we know that food insecurity occurs year-round,” said Glover. “We hope this day serves to educate people about the harsh reality of food insecurity and offer some relief at the same time.”

WPCU reports over 80 percent of people cited “rising food costs” as the reason behind having to use emergency food services

Access to Excess, Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley, Food For The Journey, Miami Valley Meals, National Conference for Community and Justice of Greater Dayton (NCCJ) and WPCU are working together to make the event occur.
