DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Some residents in western Montgomery County were prompted to evacuated.

New Lebanon residents living on either Hazelhurst Street or Holderman Place between Lawson Avenue and 491 Holderman Place were asked to leave their homes and the area, according to the New Lebanon Police Department.

The department provided an update soon after, stating that residents could return home.

“The evacuation has ended and residents may return home. If you smell gas please contact one of the gas company representatives and they will check the levels for you,” the department said in the post.

The evacuation was due to a “major gas leak.” According to Rob Anderson, acting village manager of New Lebanon, a contractor reportedly struck a gas line Thursday around noon.
