BROOKVILLE, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Schools in the Miami Valley continue to see threats, including Brookville Local Schools which received an online threat on Wednesday.

Faculty members were informed of the online threat after school was dismissed and students left for the day. Police arrested a student in connection to the threat against school safety.

Officers quickly determined that the threat was not credible. They located a student near the school who they believe is responsible.

No weapons were found on the individual at the time they were arrested. Parents were then notified of the situation and that there were no further safety concerns.

“We sent out a ParentSquare to make them aware of what had transpired. And again, that it was resolved and there was no students in harm’s way,” said Superintendent of Brookville Local Schools Jason Wood.

According to the school’s code of conduct, based on the offense, that student will likely face out-of-school suspension and recommendation for expulsion.

Wood says if students see online threats against a school, they should immediately report it to school staff or local police. Do not share or repost a threat in any way.

“Just to not even address a threat on social media or through any type of electronic communications, because even if you mean it as a joke, it can be taken seriously and there are ramifications for that because you induce panic. You’re menacing. You’re you’re posing a possible threat,” said Wood.

Brookville Police is investigating this situation. There is no word yet if anyone will face charges.
