    1 dead, 1 in custody after shooting in Greenville

    GREENVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — The Greenville Police Department took a man into custody after a woman was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

    According to the police department , officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Martin Street around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26.

    At the scene, crews discovered a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound. They also determined that a person of interest had fled the area before their arrival, prompting police to establish a perimeter.

    Life saving measures were undertaken on the woman, but she was pronounced deceased at 9:17 p.m. She was identified as Brianne Otley, 34, of Greenville.

    The man who officers were looking for was found at 10:27 p.m., several blocks north of where the shooting took place. The man, reported to be 25 years old, is in police custody on a preliminary charge of murder.

    The case remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office.

    The Greenville Police Department was assisted by Greenville Township Rescue, the City of Greenville Fire Department and CareFlight from Miami Valley Hospital.
