DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Power outages left thousands of residents in the dark as Helene’s remnants brought heavy wind and rain to the Miami Valley.

If you are a SNAP beneficiary who suffered food spoilage or loss due to the power outage Friday, you may be eligible for replacements of the items.

Those who experienced a power outage for four or more hours can apply to receive replacement SNAP benefits for the amount of food the household lost. The amount cannot exceed their monthly allotment.

Impacted households are required to complete JFS Form 07222 within 10 days of the loss. This document must be sent to their county’s Department of Job and Family Services. The extended power outage needs to be verified before replacing the benefits.

Households are recommended to provide evidence including screenshots of news reports, text or email alerts, or outage maps to show their area was impacted for four or more hours.

2 NEWS first reported more than 77,000 local residents were without power at 4:40 p.m. As of 9 p.m., 82,374 AES customers are without power.
