Communities work to clear debris after Friday’s storms

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The remnants of Hurricane Helene hit the Miami Valley hard on Friday, causing thousands of power outages and several roads to be blocked due to debris.

As power companies work to restore power, cities are working to clean up and remove debris from the roads.

Many city public works departments are working to clear all major roadways before starting in on clearing neighborhood streets. If your street is blocked, you are asked to call your local public works department or police non-emergency number.

Some cities like Kettering have yard debris centers open for debris removal. The Kettering yard debris center will be open both Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., located on Woodman Drive. Click here to learn more.

As crews work to clear roads and restore power, you might come across intersections with traffic lights out of operation. Intersections with downed traffic lights should be treated like a four-way stop.
