DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The director of Our Farm Sanctuary in Tipp City was found guilty of animal cruelty on Monday.

After Sophia Kartsonis entered a no-contest plea on six counts of cruelty to a companion animal, a judge found Kartsonis guilty on all counts.

In July, Miami County Animal Control searched the facility and removed 43 cats due to poor living conditions . The attorney for the shelter described the search, saying what the officers found was “horrendous.”

“The condition of the cottage was visually appalling. It was nothing compared to the smell from the cat urine and feces. That the ammonia smell was so bad that all the officers noted that their eyes watered, eyes and throats burned. And that it was difficult to breathe,” said Prosecuting Attorney J. Andrew Wannemacher.

He also noted little food and no water available to the animals.

Kartsonsis is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 24.
