DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — A local domestic violence prevention and support agency held a candlelight vigil on Monday in honor of victims, survivors and advocates.

The event was hosted by Violence Free Futures (VFF) at The Greene and comes during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Attendees described tonight’s event as “emotional and impactful.”

Organizers say the vigil aims to raise awareness about domestic violence while honoring survivors and remembering the lives lost to domestic violence.

At the event, elected officials, VFF staff, board members, and two survivors spoke. There was a moment of silence, a candle lighting and display by the Clothesline Project.

The World Health Organization reports that 1 in 3 women are subjected to violence by an intimate partner. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, these rates are highest for women ages 18 to 2 and 25 to 34.

VFF has been serving and protecting victims for 45 years in the Miami Valley. If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence or family abuse, help is available.
