DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The Humane Society of Greater Dayton welcomed 17 cats and kittens on Tuesday as part of its hurricane relief efforts.

The animals were from a homeless animal shelter in Georgia that was in the path of Hurricane Helene’s devastation. In the coming weeks, the shelter expects to bring in additional animals, including dogs and puppies.

These transports were made possible through a collaboration with national animal welfare organizations.

“We are committed to helping animals in need, regardless of their location,” said Brian Weltge, President & CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

To support the care of these animals, the Humane Society is still looking for foster parents . For those who cannot foster but wish to help, donations can be made online .
