DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — On Wednesday, Dayton Police and city officials celebrated the first steps of a new station.

The Dayton Police Department and several city officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new police station. The new building will be located at the intersection of West Third Street and Abbey Avenue.

Located next to the historic Wright Company Factor, the station will serve as the new home for the West Patrol Operations Division.

Dayton Mayor Jeffrey Mims Jr. was at Wednesday’s ceremony, saying he’s seen Dayton’s highs and lows after living here all his life. He believes the new station will be a big improvement in helping keep that area of the city safe.

“With money we got from the Biden-Harris administration to do things in life for the citizens that we have in Dayton, this is a major, major step for them,” said Mims. “For more and more citizens to see the things that we have been able to do, and improve their quality of life, it makes them very excited.”

The new station is set to be completed by late 2025.
