PHOTOS: Northern lights across the Miami Valley

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Did you catch the northern lights last night?

Residents across the Miami Valley saw the sky turn pink and purple Thursday night as the northern lights stretched down into the Midwest.

The extraordinary effect is the result of a severe solar storm impacting Earth . Earlier this week, a large solar flare was identified on the Sun, with a coronal mass ejection (CME) hurdling towards Earth soon after.
