DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A world where a virus isn’t synonymous with infectious disease?

Well, that world sort of exists on your toothbrush and showerhead.

Studies show that the viruses found on these surfaces can actually save lives. Researchers studied over 100 toothbrush and showerhead samples, and found over 600 viruses.

Superbugs could kill 40 million people by 2050, study estimates

These viruses are also known as “bacteriophages”, a combatant of bacteria. So much so that they are being used in clinical trials to contest antibiotic resistances.

Bacteriophages are believed to arise from the mouth and other water sources.
