WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — People in West Carrollton are coming together to raise money for victims of Hurricane Helene this Saturday.

Miami Valley Sports Bar will host the Block Party For Black Mountain on Saturday, Oct. 19th to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.

The Block Party For Black Mountain will accept cash donations or through Venmo to support an ongoing relief effort started by a local couple.

Former Miami Valley police officer Dan Wessling and his wife Stephanie moved to the Carolinas and bought a restaurant, and now they are helping others even after taking a hit to their business.

“They own a restaurant down there called Goldfinch, which was devastated by the hurricane, so they can no longer use it. So they are feeding the community out of their own kitchen and out of their own pocket. So it’s very hard on them. So we’re doing anything we can to lighten the load,” said Jamil Bazzy, realtor and former police officer.

While the group will take money to be sent to North Carolina, they also need tools to continue the cleanup and will be delivered by Rembrandt Roofing and Restoration.

“A lot of cleanup tools are needed. Things like chainsaws, shovels, equipment like that, any tools that can be spared by anybody. We need camping equipment, things like tents, warm clothes, sleeping bags, definitely warm clothes because the seasons are changing,” said Bazzy.

The block party will have a large array of activities that the whole family can enjoy.

“It’s going to be so much fun. We’re going to have things for kids. We’re going to be doing trick or treating. We’re going to have live music. There’s going to be a car wash, lots of games. There’s going to be a silent auction and other things that can be purchased,” said Bazzy.

The event runs from 12 until 10 p.m., and after 8 p.m., you must be 21 years old or older to attend. You can find more information on how to donate by clicking here .
