Police warn of car thieves targeting Moraine neighborhoods

MORAINE, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Police are warning residents about a series of vehicle thefts occurring in the overnight hours.

The Moraine Police Department has issued an alert to residents living in the Pinnacle Ridge, German Village and Wright Landing neighborhoods. Police have seen a rise in vehicle theft attempts in the area between the hours of 2 and 4 a.m. each night.

Police say the suspects arrive in the area by vehicle, slowly cruising around neighborhoods while checking parked cars. Often, there are three or four suspects who conceal their identities by wearing face coverings and hoodies pulled over their faces.

How to prevent your car from being stolen

While alerting the public about the increase in auto thefts, police are also sharing ways to prevent your car from being a target.

• Lock your doors and roll up all windows
• Turn on exterior lighting around your home
• Remove any valuables from the vehicle
• Use anti-theft devices like steering wheel locks

Police say while these neighborhoods are being specifically targeted at present, all residents should take precautions to prevent theft.

If you see something suspicious, like a vehicle driving slowly or a group of people wandering around at night, you should contact the Moraine Police Department immediately.

“Your vigilance could prevent theft and help protect the community,” Moraine PD says.
