SIDNEY, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Two people were hospitalized after a single-car crash in Shelby County.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a crash that occurred just after 2 p.m. on Thursday in the area of Pasco Montra Road near State Route 119.

Investigation shows a 2004 Honda Accord, driven by a 16-year-old and occupied by three 15-year-old passengers was northbound on Pasco Montra Road, approaching SR-119. Officials say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, with the driver failing to stop at the stop sign at the intersection.

The vehicle then “went airborne” as the driver lost control and went off the side of the roadway. The car struck a utility pole before traveling 420 feet further into a corn field.

The 16-year-old driver and one of the back seat passengers were flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital for their injuries. The two other passengers were treated for injuries at the scene and released.

Officials believe speed and inexperience to be contributing factors in the crash.

Responding agencies included Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Center Fire Dept., Anna Rescue, Perry-Port Salem Rescue and CareFlight Rescue Helicopter.
