Man arrested after woman found dead in Weaverville home

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A suspect has been charged with first-degree murder after a woman was found dead in a Weaverville home.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home on Ebernickle Lane in reference to a wellness check. Upon arrival, deputies located Diane Lofland.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lofland’s death has been ruled as a homicide. Deputies have not released details that may have led to the murder at this time.

Further into the investigation, investigators identified the suspect as Eric Gentle.

Gentle is currently in custody at the Buncombe County Detention Center without bond.

Lofland’s death remains under investigation by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
