After departing Billy Corgan’s NWA promotion in 2021, LA Knight would surprise many fans by joining NXT, with few expecting the journeyman to achieve much long-term success. Yet while it’s known he was almost released once called up to the main roster and repackaged as a heel manager named Max Dupri, thanks to reverting to his LA Knight persona, he received a second chance.

And now, after proving he could establish a genuine connection with fans, Fightful Select has reported that the new United States Champion has extended his contract and received a pay increase.

“LA Knight’s deal was to run into early 2025. However, we’re told now that significant time was added to it and Knight got what was considered a much-deserved pay increase.”

41-year-old Knight, real name Shaun Ricker, initially wrestled for WWE a decade ago under the ring name Slate Randall. However, he only lasted on the NXT roster for just over a year before being released. Still, he obviously didn’t give up on his dream, and after becoming Eli Drake on the independent circuit, he showed everyone what he was capable of as part of TNA and the NWA, although very few ever thought he would reach the heights he has in WWE.
