Why The Young Bucks Are Wrestling Fewer Matches Than In The Past

The Young Bucks are synonymous with AEW, having been with the company before it was even officially launched. However, despite being the promotions’ current World Tag Team Champions, they haven’t defended the belts since they won them in April, and actually, some weeks aren’t even at television tapings in person.

Yet anyone who wants to blame the brothers for this is pointing in the wrong direction, as Bryan Alvarez has stated during the Bryan and Vinny Show that the EVPs are simply fulfilling their dates, which were agreed by Tony Khan when they signed new contracts last year.

“If you think The Young Bucks book their own stuff, they don’t. If you’re upset about the Bucks not being on TV and not defending their tag team titles, there’s one person you can be upset at, and that’s Tony Khan. Because whatever contract they signed, it was for X number of dates, and he doesn’t want to pay them, maybe he has plans for them at the end of the year, or they used a bunch of dates at the beginning of the year, I don’t know, but it’s not The Young Bucks deciding ‘Hey, we’re gonna take the Summer off and not defend the tag team titles.’”

The Young Bucks are very divisive performers, as while some consider them one of the greatest tag teams in pro wrestling history, others think they should never have risen beyond the indie scene. Still, the fact that they were crucial in establishing AEW as an alternative to WWE and helped create countless jobs means only the most cynical fans would fail to acknowledge their impact on the industry.
