CM Punk is longtime fan of punk rock, and he’s often talked about his love for bands like The Ramones, H20, Bouncing Souls, The Clash, Misfits, Operation Ivy and Rancid. The latter has a connection to Punk’s former employer in All Elite Wrestling in that their popular song “Ruby Soho” is the entrance music for the wrestler of the same name.

Punk made a surprise appearance during Rancid’s set on Tuesday at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Rancid is currently on tour with Green Day and The Smashing Pumpkins, and video of Punk on stage with the band can be viewed below.

Punk appeared in Rancid’s video for “Last One To Die” back in 2009, and he previously told Alternative Press: “Rancid, I think embodies what punk rock is all about. It’s just about ‘do it yourself.’ They started from the bottom. Musically they are just an amazing band that took it to another level. There was a big (punk rock) boom obviously facilitated by bands like Green Day and Offspring. Taking nothing away from the bands that made it maybe bigger than Rancid, I think (Rancid) were the ones that remained true. Not that other bands didn’t remain true, but to me they were just more punk rock. They always were the ones that weren’t trying to get that record deal. They were just making the music they loved and that they grew up on.”

Punk continued: “The Clash and The Ramones and a lot of British punk was always echoed through Rancid’s albums to me. When I look back on it, I think they’re gonna be one of the most influential and important bands of my time.”
