In recent years, 81-year-old Afa Anoa’i, best known to wrestling fans for being part of the legendary Wild Samoans tag team, has been dealing with various serious health issues. And now, just two months after his brother and tag partner Sika passed away at 79, Afa’s son Samu has sadly disclosed on Facebook his father died on Friday.

“It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of my father Afa Anoai Sr. It was a peaceful transition and he was surrounded by loved ones. Please respect our privacy as we morn our father.”

Anoa’i broke into the business back in 1973 after being trained by Peter Maivia, the grandfather of The Rock. He and Sika would subsequently travel worldwide and capture 21 tag team championships, three of which were the WWF World Tag Team Championship during their career. Subsequently, WWE honored them in 2007 when they were inducted into their Hall of Fame. And while they had been out of the spotlight for many years, they did appear at Hell in a Cell in 2020 to celebrate Roman Reigns’ victory over Jey Uso.
