To mark the 25th anniversary of his iconic Y2J promo, Chris Jericho talked about joining the WWF and the circumstances that led him to the company. On a recent Talk Is Jericho , the current “Learning Tree” of All Elite Wrestling discussed his final days with WCW and why he chose to leave, meeting with Vince McMahon at his house prior to being under contract, and even the name he pitched for what became his Walls of Jericho finishing move .

Jericho also said that McMahon gave him the option to reject stories and angles that made him uncomfortable. The discussion between Jericho and WWE’s former CEO came about following the Mark Henry/Mae Young sex angle.

“I told Vince on the phone, they had just done this thing where Mark Henry had sex with Mae Young and I said, ‘Are you ever going to make me do anything like that because I don’t really feel comfortable doing the sexual stuff,’” Jericho said.

Vince said: “‘If there is anything you ever don’t want to do, just tell me, you don’t have to do it. We’ll never have you do anything like that anyway.’ To his credit, I never had to do anything that ridiculous. I don’t think I did anything that ridiculous.”

Jericho worked for the WWE from 1999 to 2005 and again from 2007 to 2018 where he was a six-time world champion. Listen to the full Talk Is Jericho episode here.
