Top AEW Star Could Soon Be A Free Agent

Saraya’s return to the ring since joining AEW has been nothing short of miraculous, with the former WWE star having previously retired in 2017 after suffering a severe neck injury. At the time, she required multiple metal screws inserted into her neck, and it was thought any type of bump could be disastrous for her health.

However, she has since resumed her career and won her first world title in nearly nine years at All In last year. But it now appears her long-term AEW future is in doubt, as Fightful Select has reported that her contract expires shortly, and the options years haven’t yet been activated.

“Within a few months, she could end up on the free agent market, sources tell Fightful. We’ve learned that the “Fighting With My Family” inspiration’s deal with AEW extends until at least September, where there were option years, but instead something else is likely on the table. The nature of the option years has been up for debate internally, as sources claimed each side held them.”

32-year-old made her pro wrestling debut at the age of just 13 for her family’s promotion and, within six years, had impressed WWE enough to earn a developmental contact. From there, she would be re-named Paige and, after having a winning streak in NXT, was fast-tracked to the main roster, becoming the youngest Divas Champion at 21. Unfortunately, her career would end up derailed for several years due to injury and personal issues, although she successfully turned her life around and was given a second chance in the ring by AEW’s medical team.
