Dory Funk Jr. is considered one of the greatest pro wrestlers ever and was rightfully inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009. However, when it was first announced that he was planning to come out of retirement to wrestle an Electric Explosion Death Tag Match for Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, many fans were concerned, given that he is 83 and hasn’t competed in six years.

Yet, despite there being many doubters, Funk Jr. has now successfully wrestled the match, which was in tribute to his sadly departed brother Terry, and in the process, set the record of being the oldest male wrestler ever to compete.

How long Funk Jr. will hold the record remains to be seen as Shinya Koshika, who wrestles as the Great Kojika, is still wrestling death matches at the age of 82. Still, it should be noted that the record for oldest pro wrestler ever goes to Mae Young at 87 and 248 days, although with Funk Jr. and Kojika both seemingly active, it would take a brave person to bet against one of them eventually taking the overall record.
