While All Out had several stand-out matches, the Lights Out Steel Cage main event between Adam Page and Swerve Strickland surpassed everything else on the show due to its pure brutality. For those who didn’t watch the pay-per-view, the duo would somehow top their Texas Death match from last year’s Full Gear, thanks to including a cinderblock bump, a syringe in the mouth, and a fierce chair shot.

And now, following the match-of-the-year contender, Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Strickland will be getting some time off. This follows the 33-year-old having signed a new contract last month, which is believed to be for at least four years.

“I heard a long time ago that Swerve was going to sign the contract, and he was going to get some time off, for whatever reason, and this was the angle.”

Strickland broke into the pro wrestling business back in 2008 and worked for multiple promotions before signing a developmental contract with WWE in 2019. However, he would only be employed by the company for two years before surprisingly being released due to budget cuts. Yet, thanks to Tony Khan recognizing his potential, he was hired by AEW and proved any doubters he had wronged by becoming a prominent part of their roster and their World Champion.
