Netflix’s  “Mr. McMahon” docuseries begins streaming on Wednesday, and to say wrestling fans can’t wait to watch it would be an understatement. However, while many initially assumed it would be favorable towards Vince McMahon, it has since been confirmed that this isn’t the case, with the disgraced billionaire taking to X on Tuesday to ask viewers to “ remember that there are two sides to every story.

And now demonstrating how badly McMahon wanted to stop the series airing, Dave Meltzer has claimed on Wrestling Observer Radio that he tried to purchase the rights and, after being turned down, asked Ari Emanuel, who effectively controls WWE nowadays and is a huge name in Hollywood, to get it “ killed .”

    Dave Meltzer

"He had apparently tried to buy the documentary, which would basically buy it to kill it, you know, buy the rights to it to kill it like a lot of media does, or a lot of rich people do with unfavorable media at times and Netflix turned them down, and then he tried to get Ari Emanuel to do the same you know to try to get the thing killed, and that didn't work so here we are. Vince's statement today probably did more to, you know, publicize the documentary."

While McMahon’s reputation has never been particularly favorable, what was claimed in Janel Grant’s horrifying lawsuit is far worse than anything even his biggest detractors ever imagined. Therefore, it is doubtful that anything disclosed in “Mr. McMahon” will tarnish his name anymore. Still, it will likely make far more people aware of the allegations, especially those who don’t follow pro wrestling, although as McMahon signed up for this willingly in 2020, he only has himself to blame.
