WWE Are Attempting To Block Trademark Application Filed By TNA’s Parent Company For Former Talents Ring Name

If you include his time in WWE’s then developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling, Santino Marella spent 11 years with WWE. Yet, with him not having been with the company for so long, WWE gave up ownership of the ring name, and subsequently, Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions LLC, the parent company of TNA, applied to trademark it because he was joining the promotion as an on-screen authority figure.

However, it has now been noted that almost two years later, WWE filed for a 90-day extension to oppose the application, which is somewhat surprising considering the two wrestling companies are currently working together.

Many believed 50-year-old Santino, real name Anthony Carelli, had retired from the ring following his appearance in the 2020 Royal Rumble match. Still, he occasionally wrestles on the indies and even worked a few matches for TNA, including one against fellow former WWE alumni Fandango. Therefore, many fans hope that he and his real-life daughter Arianna Grace will eventually team up thanks to NXT’s talent exchange with TNA, although that might just be wishful thinking.
