Taz Comments After Hook Retired The FTW Championship

Hook made his history when he won the FTW Championship for a record third time during All In. However, after successfully defending it against Roderick Strong during this week’s Grand Slam-themed episode of Dynamite, the second-generation wrestler announced he was retiring the title before presenting it to his father, Taz, who was on commentary.

This surprising development comes not long after a Wrestlesphere journalist insulted the title, calling it “a bit of a joke” during a press conference, which clearly irritated both Hook and Tony Khan. And now, just hours after the belt he created and made famous was withdrawn from competition, Taz has taken to X to thank all the former title holders.

Taz initially created the FTW Championship in ECW as part of a storyline where he couldn’t get a title shot at then-ECW Champion Shane Douglas. Yet, while it was never officially recognized by ECW, it was treated as a legitimate alternative to the promotions top belt. And while it disappeared once Taz departed the company, it would be revived in AEW as part of the build for a match between Brian Cage and Jon Moxley.
