Vince McMahon is back in the news because his Netflix docuseries began streaming earlier this week, bringing up multiple topics from the disgraced billionaire’s past. Among them was the steroid scandal of the ’90s and deaths in wrestling, which many hold McMahon responsible for due to the schedule he had talents work and the need to have a musclebound look to be pushed as a star.

However, despite most having turned their backs on him, McMahon still has some defenders, and among them appears to be Rob Van Dam, who on his podcast has played down McMahon’s influence on this, asking, “ Why in the world would I blame him? ” Indicating that he sees any drug use or working while hurt to be a personal decision unrelated to McMahon.

“Why in the world would I ever blame Vince McMahon for me taking pain pills, or for me getting concussions, or for doing steroids, or working while I’m hurt? Why in the world would I blame him? I can’t imagine any reason.”

    Rob Van Dam

In the past, Rob Van Dam has spoken very highly of his former boss, saying they have a mutual respect for each other, and following his Hall of Fame induction, it’s known he even gifted McMahon some rolling papers. Still, Van Dam recently disclosed during an earlier podcast that McMahon changed his phone number following the Janet Grant scandal and, at the time, hadn’t shared it with him. This seems to indicate that the ECW original held his former employer in a higher regard than he held him.
