Former WWE Star Looks Noticeably Smaller In Recent Photo
While Batista proved during his WWE career to be far more than just a musclehead, it’s undeniable that his impressive physical appearance got him his foot in the door. However, having retired from the ring and now focusing on acting, he has clearly significantly changed his gym routine. This is evident in a new photo being shared online showing him backstage at The Tonight Show looking much smaller than in his wrestling prime. 55-year-old Batista, whose real name is David Bautista Jr., initially tried to break into the wrestling business back in 1999 via the WCW Power Plant but was told by trainer Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker that he didn’t have what it took to make it. Obviously, he would go on to prove the former WCW enhancement talent wrong, and he won six world championships and headlined WrestleMania twice in two different decades. Therefore, it is expected that it will be just a matter of time before he is inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, although it will be interesting to see whether he decides to bulk up to appear in front of wrestling fans again.
Likely Reason Jeff Hardy Was Written Off TNA Television
During this week’s episode of Impact, Jeff Hardy had his head put through a steel chair and was then slammed throat-first into the ring post by JDC, formally known as Fandango. This would see security and medical staff rush to help Hardy, and the former AEW wrestler would be put in a neckbrace, stretched out, and then loaded into an ambulance. And now it has been reported by PWInsider.com that this angle was likely done to write Hardy off TNA television while the company runs shows in Canada, as he can’t enter the country due to his highly published legal issues. After seven years away from TNA, Jeff Hardy returned to the promotion at their Against All Odds event last month. This was especially notable as his AEW contract had just expired, making it possible for him to reunite with his brother Matt Hardy, who was wrestling in the main event. And while many anticipate Jeff being a TNA regular for the foreseeable future, it is understood that, like Matt, he remains a free agent.
Trailer Released For New Wrestling Horror Movie Starring Chris Jericho
“Dark Match,” the new wrestling-based horror movie written and directed by Lowell Dean, will make its premiere on Sunday, July 21 at the Fantasia Film Festival. The ’80s-set film stars Ayisha Issa (“Transplant), Steven Ogg (“Grand Theft Auto V,” “The Walking Dead”) and Chris Jericho. The film’s synopsis reads: “A small time wrestling company accepts a well-paying but too good to be true gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader… and their event is now a pay-per-view fight to the death.” Dean told Bloody Disgusting: “When I...
Talk Is Jericho: The Legendary Career Of Beverly D’Angelo
Beverly D’Angelo may be best known as Ellen Griswold in the Vacation movie franchise, but she actually got her showbiz start as a singer! She was a rock n roller long before she ever graced the silver screen or Broadway stage! In fact, it was her incredible singing that landed her the award-winning role of Patsy Cline in Coal Miner’s Daughter alongside Sissy Spacek and an in-person audition for the part in front of the legendary Loretta Lynn herself. Beverly recounts her days on the road with Rompin’ Ronnie Hawkins & The Hawks and explains how that led to Coal Miner’s Daughter, which in turn led to Vacation. She remembers getting a call from Doug Ellin to make a one-off cameo appearance on HBO’s Entourage and how that quickly turned into a recurring character. Plus, Beverly reveals her upcoming plans to create a music docu-series! AJ Styles Seemingly Comments On Will Ospreay Using The Styles Clash
Almost immediately after Will Ospreay used the Styles Clash on MJF during their match on Dynamite, fans on social media began debating whether the AEW star was ripping off AJ Styles or paying tribute to him. And now, seemingly having seen these comments, the former WWE Champion has taken to X to acknowledge that all wrestlers use each other’s moves, indicating he isn’t concerned. However, it should be noted that it isn’t even confirmed Styles’ tweet was directed solely towards Ospreay. This is because some on social media have speculated it could have also been aimed at Marigold’s Miku Aono, who also used the move last weekend. 47-year-old Styles is usually credited with inventing the Styles Clash, although his brother actually did the move first, having performed it on a friend when they were trampolining. Yet, while the move is popular among fans, it should be noted that it can be dangerous if a wrestler tucks their chin, with both Yoshi Tatsu and Lionheart having suffered broken necks due to this. Although thankfully, both men were able to resume their careers.
Kurt Angle Shares “Assh*le Thing” Gable Steveson Said To Him
WWE released Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson in May after he failed to prove himself in the pro wrestling ring. This was quite a surprise as it was thought WWE would give him plenty of opportunities due to his celebrity status and atheism. However, it now appears he may have had an attitude problem, as fellow Olympian Kurt Angle has revealed on his podcast that Steveson told him to his face that he wanted to be better than him in the ring, which the WWE Hall of Famer considered to be an “assh*le thing to say.“ The 24-year-old was a very controversial signing for WWE in 2021 due to the highly problematic allegations made against him two years earlier. Yet clearly, those in power at WWE believed that any fan backlash would be offset by his potential to become a star. Still, with him having failed to make an impact in the pro wrestling business, he is now signed with the Buffalo Bills despite never having never played football before.
Kevin Owens Shares Positive Personal News
Earlier this month, Kevin Owens emotionally revealed on SmackDown that his mother, Suzanne Steen, had been hospitalized in Quebec and was “fighting like hell.” Obviously, this was very worrying to hear, and fans worldwide would be hoping she would be able to recover. And now, in an optimistic update, the WWE star has shared a photograph of her on X still in hospital but captioned “She kicked out,” indicating she is on the mend. 40-year-old Owens made his name in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and Ring of Honor before signing with WWE. Yet, while it was always known how talented he was, many suspected his look would hold him back, considering that Vince McMahon typically pushed those with a bodybuilder physique. Still, Owens would seemingly never be held back because of this, becoming a featured performer in both NXT and the main roster and making his family proud when he achieved his career goal of becoming a WWE World Champion in 2016.
Ric Flair Calls ESPN “A Bunch Of B*tches” After They Omitted Him From List
ESPN.com has recently been ranking the top athletes of the 21st century, with Michael Phelps, Serena Williams, Lionel Messi, LeBron James, and Tom Brady making up the top five. Yet while MMA fighters Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones would appear in the list, no professional wrestlers would rank, which does appear to be somewhat of an oversight, with the likes of Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, and Kurt Angle surely all being worthy of consideration. And now, clearly being frustrated with pro wrestling being overlooked, Ric Flair would go as far as to call ESPN “a bunch of b*tches” on X for not including him. While Flair is perhaps the greatest all-around pro wrestler ever, whether he qualifies for such a list based on his work in the 2000s is certainly debatable. This is because his most iconic and legendary matches with names like Ricky Steamboat, Barry Windham, and Terry Funk all took place in the 80s, which wouldn’t count. Still, considering how Flair will always be synonymous with the business, it’s understandable why the two-time WWE Hall of Famer feels he deserves some recognition when ranking the best of the best regardless of criteria.
Rey Mysterio Surprises Fans By Sharing Rare Unmasked Photo
Rey Mysterio is one of the most famous masked pro wrestlers of all time, and while he did compete in WCW without his trademark face covering, some younger fans have never seen his full face. Therefore, many have been shocked to see the WWE Hall of Famer appear unmasked on his official Instagram alongside his wife and daughter while seemingly enjoying a much-deserved vacation. 49-year-old Mysterio is one of the most beloved in-ring performers ever, and his influence can never be underestimated. And considering his initial WWE run started in 2002, the fact that he is still one of the promotion’s top stars is remarkable and illustrates his ability to stay relevant. Yet, he has previously revealed that he only has a couple of years left in the ring, so fans do need to enjoy him while they still can.
The Hashtag #PushZelina Trends On X Following Zelina Vega’s Impassioned Plea
Zelina Vega is an incredibly popular WWE performer, although she is currently far more likely to put someone over than win a match, with television defeats to Sonya Deville, Liv Morgan, Elektra Lopez, and Tiffany Stratton already this year illustrating that. However, it appears the Latino World Order member is far from satisfied with her spot, as she has gotten her followers talking after tweeting she is ready to prove herself, noting if she fails, then “F**K me, I’ll fall back.” Subsequently, this has seen the hashtag #PushZelina trend under combat sports on X, although whether WWE management has taken note is unknown. Vega is currently in her second spell with WWE, having been previously fired in November 2020 because she refused to follow the company’s controversial policy of not working with third parties. This would see her take to X, then called Twitter and share her support for pro wrestling unionization. Yet she would later delete the tweet and was heavily criticized by some fans for hypocrisy after returning to the company. Yet, knowing that working for WWE was her childhood dream, it is easy to understand why she would return despite how she was previously treated.
Latest Update On Sammy Guevara’s AEW Future
In February, AEW management suspended Sammy Guevara for not following their concussion protocol during his Rampage match with Jeff Hardy. For those unaware, the now-former AEW wrestler suffered a broken nose when Guevara accidentally landed on his face during a Shooting Star Press. Yet, despite being told to pin his opponent quickly, Guevara hit his GTH finishing move instead. And while it’s been known that the AEW original suspension ended a while ago, he has remained off television. However, according to Fightful Select, his return could be imminent as AEW has been discussing this. 30-year-old Guevara was one of AEW’s first signings and would make his debut at the promotion’s first event, Double or Nothing, losing to Kip Sabian. Subsequently, his career would really take off when he was picked to be part of Chris Jericho’s Inner Circle stable, which was a focal point of AEW in its infancy. This would lead to him holding the AEW TNT Championship on three occasions, establishing him as a prominent part of the company, although where he will be positioned on the card when he is re-introduced remains to be seen.
Paul Wight Shares Health Update Following His Hiatus From The Ring
Paul Wight has only wrestled three matches over the past two years, with one of those being on Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager At Sea cruise. Therefore, with it known that he has been dealing with multiple injuries, having wrestled for almost 30 years, many fans began to accept that his time in the ring might be over. However, the AEW star has given his fans hope, having revealed on Instagram that he is back in the gym after replacing his knees and hips. Whether this will see him wrestle again is unclear, but given his legendary status, he certainly deserves a proper sendoff. 52-year-old Wight began his wrestling career in 1995 for WCW as The Giant and would win their world championship in his debut match against Hulk Hogan. Yet, despite being one of the few younger talents pushed into the main event scene, he still opted to leave the company and signed with WWE in 1999, where he found fame as The Big Show. And while it was thought that he was a WWW lifer, having worked for Vince McMahon’s company for so long, he would stun the wrestling world in 2021 when he decided to become All Elite.
Update On CM Punk Attempting To Get Medically Cleared
CM Punk shocked the wrestling world when he returned to WWE at last November’s Survivor Series. Yet, unfortunately for all involved, he suffered a triceps injury during his first televised match back at the Royal Rumble. However, having gotten physical multiple times ahead of a highly anticipated match with the man who injured him, Drew McIntyre, it was assumed to be only a matter of time before he was back in the ring. And now, after he appeared in a TikTok video alongside Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez at the Performance Center, PWInsider.com has confirmed he was there in an attempt to get medically cleared. Despite his injury status, WWE has continued to capitalize on Punk’s fame by having him regularly appear on television. Therefore, this has allowed the company to continue fueling his feud with McIntyre, with the duo currently expected to wrestle in a featured match at SummerSlam. Yet, with the premium live event only being weeks away, Punk needs to be cleared sooner rather than later.
Backstage News On Darby Allin’s Entrance From The Rafters During Dynamite
During this past week’s historic 250th episode of Dynamite, Darby Allin was lowered from the rafters, which for some long-term fans brought back memories of Owen Hart, who tragically died when WWE attempted to parody this entrance and a quick-release mechanism accidentally triggered. Yet for anyone fearing this stunt was done in poor taste, it has now been confirmed by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select on X that, like when Sting did this entrance earlier this year, Tony Khan made sure to reach out to Hart’s widow, Martha, for her consent. Following Hart’s death at the age of just 34, Sting limited the use of his iconic entrance, with the last time he did this prior to AEW being during his time with TNA at Slammiversary in 2007. And while it was thought the entrance was retired at the same time as Sting, it now appears that Allin has adopted this to pay homage to his mentor and former tag partner.
Ex-Great White Singer Jack Russell Shares Heartbreaking Health News
Singer Jack Russell is one of the founding members of hard rockers Great White. Russell has been in and out of the band quite a bit in recent decades, but until earlier this year, he had been touring under the band name “Jack Russell’s Great White,” while the original Great White also remained active. Russell has had numerous health issues over the years, some brought on by his battles with addiction. Sadly this week, Russell has announced he is retiring from touring after being diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy. “To my fans and friends, it is...
Britney Spears Blasts The Osbournes
In a spat that no one saw coming, pop star Britney Spears has responded to The Osbournes over comments made by the family on a recent episode of their podcast. A listener sent in a question for Kelly Osbourne asking if she would ever make posts of herself dancing on TikTok. “I don’t know how to do TikTok dances,” she said. “I don’t know where anybody would ever think that I would.” Sharon Osbourne added: “It seems to me that TikTok when it first started, were people doing silly dances, but now it’s developed into so much more.” Jack Osbourne chimed in saying: “You’re just saying that because you’re the biggest TikTok junkie, and you’re just trying to be, like, ‘But there’s more to it than that.'” “There is,” Sharon replied. Ozzy then piped up: “I’m fed up of seeing poor old Britney Spears on YouTube. Every f*cking day. It’s sad, very, very sad.” Jack went on to say “Save Britney,” and Kelly added: “I know. I feel so sorry for her.” Spears responded to the comments in a lengthy Instagram post. She wrote: “I’m gonna … tell the Osbourne family who is the most boring family known to mankind to kindly f*ck off!”
GoFundMe Launched To Save John Nord’s Leg
In sad news, a GoFundMe has been launched for former AWA, WWE, and WCW wrestler John Nord, best known to wrestling fans as The Berzerker. According to the campaign, the 64-year-old is in need of donations in an attempt to save his leg following multiple knee surgeries, which have resulted in having to fight a life-threatening infection. For those unaware, Nord’s life hasn’t been easy for several years, with it understood he had been staying at an assisted-living facility due to being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Nord broke into the wrestling business in 1984, and from there, he would notably work for the AWA, WCCW, and New Japan before joining WWE in 1991 and becoming The Berzerker with the unique gimmick of throwing his opponent over the top rope for a countout victory. Subsequently, he would compete in hundreds of matches for the company against the top babyfaces of the time, including The British Bulldog, Tatanka, Bret Hart, and Crush. However, he departed in 1993 and returned to Japan, this time with AJPW. His final run would then be for WCW in the last 90s, during which he mainly wrestled on WCW Saturday Night under his real name.
Joe Hendry Praises TNA Management Following His NXT Debut
TNA star Joe Hendry is featured on the latest episode of Talk Is Jericho. Hendry discussed various topics, including his recent NXT appearance, wrestling Kurt Angle, cutting promos with Shawn Michaels, and much more. Hendry also provided some insight into how long he has left on his TNA contract. His recent NXT appearance has led to speculation he might one day be headed to work for WWE. Hendry teamed with Trick Williams to defeat Shawn Spears and Ethan Page. “We’ve got a while, but because of the working relationship, I really feel like anything is possible,” Hendry said. “I’m very...
Dr. Britt Baker Opens Up About Her Mini-Stroke
Having not wrestled since September 2023, Dr. Britt Baker delighted fans at Forbidden Door when she returned at the end of Mercedes Moné’s match, clearly setting up a future clash. And while it had been thought Baker had been on hiatus due to looking after her partner, Adam Cole, and dealing with her own injuries, she would reveal during the following episode of Dynamite she had actually suffered a mini-stroke, which left her hospitalized for a week. And now, while speaking to Renee Paquette, the AEW star has opened up about this traumatic experience. 33-year-old Baker was AEW’s first official female signing and soon established herself as the face of the women’s division thanks to her outstanding promo ability. Yet it would be her memorable rivalry with Thunder Rosa that took her career to the next level and proved she was deserving of a top spot. However, having been off AEW television for so long and thus losing much of her momentum, she does need to re-establish herself, which a feud with Moné should ultimately do.
Ric Flair Sets “The Record Straight” On John Cena Breaking His World Championship Record
Almost as soon as 16-time world champion John Cena announced that he was retiring at the end of 2025, fans began to speculate about the possibility of having one final championship reign, meaning he would individually hold the record. Subsequently, this would be brought up to the current record co-holder, Ric Flair, during a recent episode of Busted Open, where he said he said he was OK with Cena doing this. Still, he personally hoped that his daughter Charlotte, who is a 14-time women’s world champion, would be the one to beat his record. And now, to ensure his opinion was accurately communicated, he has...
