Aging irrigation line fails in Ogden, stirring fears of harm to farmland
OGDEN — Farmers in parts of Weber County are worried about the survival of their crops following an irrigation pipe failure late last week. After the ground began to sink near 12th Street and Canyon Road last Thursday, emergency crews from Ogden City excavated the area to uncover the faulty line, which belongs to the nonprofit Western Irrigation Co. Dennis Illum, Western Irrigation’s president, told the Standard-Examiner that the line provides irrigation and secondary water to what could be as much as 20,000 acres of land in locations across the county.

Ogden seeks water rate hikes for a $99M pipeline project
OGDEN — The aging pipeline connecting Pineview Reservoir, a key source of drinking water in Weber County, and the city of Ogden has long been a point of debate and concern. Now, the project is finally materializing, as the Ogden City Council considers rate hikes later this month that would gradually raise the fees water customers pay by 25% through 2029. The funds generated by the proposed increases are needed to help cover the cost of borrowing the money required to pay for the $99 million project. The question of borrowing $77 million to $82.1 million to finance the plans comes up for consideration by the City Council next Tuesday.
