Heavy rain causes embankment failure
DAYTON — More than 6 inches of rain overnight caused an embankment failure that washed away parts of 330th Street between Dayton and Stratford in southern Webster County. “The heavy rain caused the soil to become saturated, which reduces cohesion and shear strength,” said Webster County Engineer Jamie Johll. “When the shear strength reached a certain point, the soil started to slough.”
