    Grote's great night at bat isn't enough in Lakers loss to Webster

    Joey Grote collected three hits in four at bats, as the Lakers kept the game tied at 1-1 until Webster put up four runs in the fourth inning to chase starting pitcher Mason Miller off the mound in the 9-3 loss to Webster.

    Grote singled in the third inning, doubled in the seventh and singled in the sixth inning. Miller pitched five innings, giving up five hits and six runs, but only one of those were earned.

    Webster scored in their first at bats on an unearned run off of Miller.

    Jake Belille put Webster on the board with a single, scoring a previous baserunner who had reached on an error.

    After a scoreless second inning, the Lakers tied the game up in the third. Drew Conrad reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Grote got his first hits of the day and an RBI scoring Conrad.

    In the fourth inning, Miller got two quick outs and looked to cruise into the fifth when his pitching control and the fielding behind him faltered. Miller walked and then hit a batter.

    On a 2-2 count, Webster hit a hard grounder to second that wasn’t fielded cleanly, scoring one of the two runners on base. Up 2-1, Jacob Hamel brought in the other runner on base, and Ryan Joyner doubled to score Hamel and the other base runner to make it 5-1 after four innings of play.

    Webster tacked on another run in the fifth, but the Lakers answered in the the sixth inning to make it 6-3. Three straight singles by Porter Sartor, Hudson Dillon and Jack Jandro resulted in the two runs scored in the inning.

    After a scoreless seventh, Webster put the game away with three more runs in the eighth off reliever Dillon for the final score of 9-3.

    Dillon pitched four innings of play, giving up three runs, two earned.

    In addition to Grote’s big outing at the plate, Jack Jandro had a multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a walk and one run batted in.

    The Lakers will now go on the road for five straight games. Their next home game won’t be until Thursday, July 25 against Shakopee.
