CDL legislation eases career path for commercial drivers
FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - Obtaining a Commercial Drivers License has become much easier in Minnesota. The 180-hour CDL training mandate was officially lifted July 1. Minnesota lawmakers spearheaded the initiative to address testing backlogs, allow training programs to expand, and help grow the work force. Lawmakers gathered at M-State in Moorhead on Thursday to speak about the new legislation and the impact it will have on the industry.

Electrical fire likely cause of house fire that killed elderly couple, says sheriff
LE SUEUR COUNTY, Minn. — The Le Sueur County Sheriff says an "electrical component" likely caused a house fire that killed an elderly couple last Sunday. The Montgomery Fire Department was one of four departments that responded to a 911 call at nearly 1 a.m. and discovered Betty, 73, and Roman Jindra, 76, dead in their kitchen. The sheriff says Betty had called to say the couple was trapped inside.

Gem Days was all about the kids Friday morning. Festivities began with a kids parade down Cedar Avenue, with kids and families migrating to Central Park for more fun afterwards. RE/MAX's annual Crazy Hair Contest in the park featured the wildest hairstyles in town. Emma Harris, 5, won first place in the 6 and under category for her hair, which was braided into a swing set for a doll. She was followed by Natalie Westphall in second and Dawson Gill in third. Winona County woman indicted for phony cure that hurt instead of healed
ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Winona County woman has been indicted in federal court for selling a phony cure that left patients with additional injuries. Tammy Schultz Wadsworth, 62 of Stockton, has been charged with mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the State of Minnesota says Wadsworth cheated business owners of nearly $1 million through a multi-year sophisticated fraud scheme.
