CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lombardi Award, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Houston, announced on Thursday, August 15, the 90 players who will compete for this year’s coveted award. The Lombardi Award goes annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman who exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi in addition to outstanding performance and ability. Tragedy struck on the 9600 block of Southwest Freeway in two separate incidents as reports from the Houston police detail fatal encounters on the road; one victim lost their life in a crash in June and another in a hit-and-run collision involving a motorcyclist this past weekend. According to the City of Houston, a 69-year-old man succumbed to his injuries on August 9 after his Toyota Tacoma was struck by a black Acura RDX on June 18, a collision that also involved a grey Freightliner tractor-trailer truck, though the driver of the Freightliner was unharmed.
Three shot by family member after argument
HOUSTON, TX – Three men are recovering in the hospital after a family member shot them following an argument. The shooting occurred in the 1700 block of Fulton around 1 a.m. According to the Houston Police Department, three men, aged 39, 29, and 24 were all shot in the torso. Two of them were transported to the hospital in stable condition and the third had more serious injuries.
Man dies after being struck by vehicle on North Freeway
HOUSTON, TX – A man is dead after a vehicle struck him on the North Freeway. The accident occurred in the 5900 block of the North Freeway shortly before 1 a.m. According to the Houston Police Department, multiple witnesses with dashcams stopped at the scene including the striking driver.
Mexican National Sentenced to Over 17 Years in U.S. Prison for Meth Trafficking in Houston Area
A Mexican citizen has been handed a substantial prison sentence after being convicted for his role in a drug trafficking scheme that sought to distribute more than 17 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Conroe area, just north of Houston, as announced by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Alberto Ramos-Nogueda, 36, was found guilty of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute by a federal jury and sentenced to 210 months, according to a recent press release from the Department of Justice.
