Grant program funded by federal gas tax makes more than $300,000 investment in Southwest Oregon Trail Projects
Oregon State Parks’ Recreational Trails Program is investing over $300,000 in southwest Oregon’s trail networks via three nonprofit trail organizations, the Siskiyou Uplands Trails Association, Rogue Valley Mountain Biking Association, and Siskiyou Mountain Club. SUTA will be completing a five-mile section of new trail on their Jack-Ash trail project. The funding will also cover costs of signs, including an interpretive sign with information on local indigenous cultures. The Arkansas Community Foundation (ARCF) has announced the creation of the Fordyce Survivors Fund in response to the mass shooting on June 21 in Fordyce, Arkansas. 100 percent of donations to the fund will provide financial support for survivors of the shooting. ARCF will partner with Victim’s First, a volunteer-led nonprofit helping with immediate needs, along with the Mass Violence Survivor’s Fund—national entities with experience serving communities following more than 50 mass shootings nationwide.

Firefighters Catch Dead Indian Memorial Road Fire Overnight
ASHLAND, Ore. (July 5, 2024) – Firefighters were able to stop the progress of a new fire that started late Thursday night, completely lining the entire perimeter and stopping its growth despite steep slopes, overnight wind and extremely low relative humidities. The Dead Indian Memorial Road Fire, located northeast of Ashland, is now 100% lined and has been GPS mapped at 43 acres. The cause is currently under investigation.
