The Patriots announced on Sunday evening that defensive tackle Christian Barmore has been diagnosed with blood clots and that there is no timetable for his return to football.

"Over the weekend, Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots," the team said in a statement . "He was appropriately treated by the doctors at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated and treated Christian. Our principal concern at this time is Christian's health and wellbeing. Fortunately, Mass General Brigham provides some of the best healthcare in the world. While there is no current timetable for his return, we know Christian is getting tremendous care and we look forward to his full recovery."

Barmore, who turned 25 on Sunday, had a breakout season in 2023, playing in all 17 game and leading New England in sacks with 8.5. He added 64 tackles, 16 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, six passes defended, and one forced fumble.

While Barmore is out, the Patriots will need to sort through their options to play alongside Davon Godchaux (who, by the way, is still looking for a new contract) in the middle of the defensive line. Other defensive tackles currently on the roster include Daniel Ekuale, Jeremiah Pharms Jr., Sam Roberts, Armon Watts, Trysten Hill, and Josiah Bronson (who was just signed earlier Sunday).

Barmore's agent, Nicole Lynn, took to X/Twitter to thank Patriots trainer Jim Whalen for his "diligence and care" over the last couple days as Barmore's blood clots were diagnosed.
