The Patriots have a break from training camp Wednesday, but the Matthew Judon saga takes no days off.
The latest development came in a pair of posts on X/Twitter just minutes apart Wednesday afternoon. The first was a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini that the Patriots “have made an offer” to Judon as the linebacker seeks a new contract.
It didn’t take long for Judon to respond. Just a couple minutes later, the veteran shot down the report, posting, “No they haven’t but it makes me look bad again. Don’t believe the lies.”
Judon opened training camp by indicating that he would play the good soldier despite being unhappy with his contract, telling reporters last week that, “I signed the deal, my signature on it, so I’ve got to play on it.”
On Friday, New England coach Jerod Mayo pushed back on the idea that Judon was “disgruntled,” saying that his attitude in practices and meetings had been “great.”
Things took a turn for the worse this week, however. On Monday, Judon sat off to the side at practice and was spotted having an animated conversation with Mayo and then another with de facto general manager Eliot Wolf and director of player personnel Matt Groh before ultimately leaving the field.
Judon was not on the field at all at Tuesday’s practice.
Interestingly, shortly after Judon took to social media on Wednesday, news broke courtesy of Adam Schefter that the Patriots have agreed to a two-year extension with defensive tackle Davon Godchaux.
Godchaux, like Judon, had publicly voiced his displeasure with his current contract and had expressed his desire for more guaranteed money. Now he has it, leaving Judon as the final unhappy camper in Foxborough.
