Project ReConnect to support individuals involved in criminal justice system who have substance use and mental health needs
With a $2 million federal grant, the VCU-led initiative will support Chesterfield County Jail and community re-entry programs, as well as create student internships. The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has awarded a five-year, $2 million grant to a Virginia Commonwealth University-led project that will provide a range of services, including drug treatment, employment, housing, case management and peer support, for people with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental illnesses who are involved in the criminal justice system.
Virginia man sentenced to 51 months in prison for $2.4M loan scheme
A Virginia man was sentenced to more than four years in prison for a 15-year scheme where he issued millions of dollars in fraudulent loans for his own benefit. The actions of James Stevens, 47, of Weems, led to a $2.3 million loss to the bank where he was employed as a commercial lender. He also stole nearly $100,000 from a bank customer.
